Low-Lives & High-Fives

I could barely write a grocery list, let alone a weblog.

Sometimes when I try to go to bed at night, I can’t sleep because my imagination is running so vividly. When one is laying down in silence while staring at a dark ceiling, they can’t help but think. I mostly think about what I’m gonna do over the weekend or what it’d be like if I had a flying bicycle.

Dum-de-dum-de-dum. I wonder if I can ever make a living off of taking pictures and making animated GIFs. Or (!) fixing typewriters. This sophomore Liz found a typewriter at her house and she’s giving it to me so I can fix it for her! I’m more excited than I should be.

There’s this girl in my college class that I’ve got a crush on but I found out that she’s 29, a nurse in residence, and married.

Takin’ school one day at a time.

longest entry ever!

Posted by Peter Lee on April 8, 2007

The past few days have been incredibly strange but kind of amazing.

I started the day by wearing a 3-piece suit.

After school on Thursday, Andrew Sainz decided he’d rather go to church than go fishing and then the next morning would drive to Austin. I didn’t want to do any of that shit so I ended up sitting in the back of JB’s truck with Arianna in the front seat. We went to Kroger’s and bought vegan kebab supplies and Dr Pepper. I fucking love Dr Pepper so fucking much. We went back to Arianna’s and made kebabs and threw them on a grill. Morgan came by and ate some kebabs with us. After the meal, we all got into Morgan’s car and JB drove us to Arianna’s grandmother’s house, where I just sat in the car awkwardly while everyone else went inside, and then off to Starbuck’s to get free coffee. I don’t drink coffee. We made a stop to Academy to buy junk. The whole time in Morgan’s car was quite terrifying because it has an automatic transmission while JB’s truck only uses manual transmisson.

After a few exchanged phone calls, we ended up at a bowling alley where I ran into some ol’ Lanier people I haven’t seen in a while. By “in a while” I mean between 3 months and 3 years. Rachel, Felipe, a Jenny I didn’t recognize but remembered on the way home. Marsha was there, too. And Braden was trailing behind her. I asked him what the hell he was doing here, considering he didn’t know a single person that drove him there, and he himself didn’t know the answer to that question. After everyone went through a few rounds of bowling and cigarettes, JB and Morgan abandoned me and I got into a van full of strangers + Marsha and Felipe. I got into the back and found Braden sitting there. I was dropped off at a park where Morgan went home in her car and JB and Arianna picked me up in JB’s truck.

“I knew I missed seeing the girls [Rachel, Marsha] but man, I really do miss seeing them now.”
“Yeah, me too.”

The remaining me, JB, and Arianna got into JB’s truck and went to WalMart to buy smores supplies. It was my first time at a WalMart. We took the graham crackers, marshmellows, and chocolate and drove back to Arianna’s house and along the way, for the second time that night, I complimented her keen sense of navigation. She was a year or two younger than JB and I but she knew ever street, every turn, and every highway and freeway. She could go from anywhere to everywhere. We got to her house and made some smores and a fort of chairs, blankets, and cushions. We were gonna sleep outside under the 4 stars that were out and next to the train tracks ten feet away from us. While JB and I were helping put the fort together I said to him, “When I first met you, I never expected us to hang out for a few hours and then spend the night in Arianna’s backyard.”

We made smores over a fire of coals.

He laughed and asked me, “Do you think you changed much since 7th or 8th grade?” I thought about it for a second, even though I knew the answer was an obvious yes.

I said “Yeah, I think I’ve changed.” I asked him if he thought I changed and he said he didn’t really know, I seemed different and everyone told him that I was different every year. I blamed my differences on all the girls I’ve had relationships with and he laughed. He told me he thought he figured it out. Back when I first met him, I’d chuckle every time I told a blatant lie but now I just told my blatant lies straight up like they were truth. I told him I think he’s not as suttle as he was when I first met him. We both agreed that we were incredibly lucky to never have to hang out with ugly people. We are horrible! We went to bed. We tried to, at least, but the trains and our excitement kept us up. Trains are loud but it’s so beautiful when you get to see them pass right in front of you under the moon.

Wrapped up in blankets and under a linen roof, Arianna’s little brother was trying to tell scary stories. They were obviously NOT scary so I told him to shut up and then I told some sexy stories. The weather was pretty horrible because of the early April freeze due to global warming. The fact that nobody would stop talking didn’t really help much, either, so I took JB’s keys and slept in the front seat of his truck. I can’t really give anyone good advice these days but I can tell you that you should never fuckin sleep in the cab of a pickup truck parked directly next to a busy train track in the 30 degree weather. I only had a few hours of sleep and then woke up, went inside, and got dressed.

After I got dressed, I discovered that everyone that was sleeping outside couldn’t stand it so in the middle of the night they decided to move inside and sleep in the warm house. All while I was dying from hypothermia in a pickup truck next to a railroad track. Thanks, bastards! I walked into Arianna’s room and found her sleeping in a bed and JB sleeping on her floor. They woke up and Arianna’s mom came in and talked to us about amusing things. She put a CD in Arianna’s CD player and walked out with some condoms. JB and I went to the House of Pies. I got biscuits and gravy and he ate pancakes and hashbrowns with a coffee. I wanted a Dr Pepper really really bad but I didn’t want to seem like a creep drinking Dr Pepper at 10 in the morning so I settled with water. JB paid for me because I paid for most of the kebabs the day before and we walked out and sat in the cab of his truck. We didn’t what the hell we were gonna do all day. We both got out our cellphones and started flipping through phone numbers and calling some. Zoe was skating. Rachel wouldn’t pick up. Marsha was fixing her hair. We were still in the House of Pies parking lot a few minutes later. JB decided to call his friend Blake to see what he was up to. Blake picked up and told us he was eating inside the House of Pies. JB hung up and we had a good laugh. We got out of the truck and walked back into the House of Pies. I met Blake for the first time and shook hands with Mak, who I hadn’t seen since Lanier. After everyone finished eating, Mak left to go somewhere and Blake, JB, and I met up at the Contemporary Arts museum to see the exhibit they had up. JB says it was some of the most intense art he’s seen. After experiencing all the art on display we went to Fiesta so I could buy a case of Dr Pepper.

After the Dr Pepper, we made a stop at my house so I could drop off some bags, pick up some clothes, and get some money. We went to Agora and met up with Blake and his friends again. JB and I cognitively didn’t really feel like hanging out with them ’cause they were so hip and we didn’t really know them that well so we just went back to JB’s house so he could make up for the lack of sleep the night before. He woke up a few hours later and we went to the Hickey residence to pick up my Magnus air organ.

JB and Morgan had to go to kung fu so I was left wandering the streets for what would be 3 and a half hours. Three hours later, Morgan’s hypoglycemia kicked in so she picked me up and we went to her house so she could eat, thus cutting off 30 minutes of my boredom. She made me eat a can of lentil soup and she ate a salad. Jimmy, Morgan’s gay roommate, got home and put a fresh vase of flowers on the table. Then he spanked a cat for hopping on the table.

Phone calls were exchanged and me, Morgan, and JB hopped in Morgan’s hatchback and were set off to Pearland to see Andrew Sainz and Arie.

JB wanted to go to the beach but Morgan didn’t want to because she said it was cold and wet and rainy. She was just saying that because she didn’t want to drive all the way out there but it actually turned out that she was right. We all watched Desperate Living. I got tired of it. I didn’t mind how gross it was, it was just too boring. So I went to go take a shower. I finally got to change out of the 3-piece suit I’d been wearing for 2 days. By the time I got back, the movie was almost finished so we all went to Busy Bee’s. The serial killer waiter wasn’t there but one of Andrew’s employees was there. This employee enjoyed burning himself and other people. I ordered a chicken fried steak and everyone else ordered pies. After we ate, we went back to Andrew’s and watched James and the Giant Peach. We all slept like stones.

I woke up before everyone else, as usual. I walked down the stairs to find some tissues to blow my nose. I found a box on the coffee table in front of a burning fire. I stared at the fire while blowing my nose and slowly turned around. Sitting in the chair behind me was Andrew’s grandmother, eyes wide open, mouth agape, staring at me. I stared at her back with my eyes half-open, turned around, and walked back upstairs like nothing happened. Morgan and I share stories of personal sexcapades. I spoke quite softly but Morgan’s voice unknowingly resonated through the whole house. Andrew cooked waffles and eggs for everyone but I didn’t feel like eating. After breakfast was finished, JB drove Morgan and I in her car to her house.

JB needed to read All the Pretty Horses so he drove to Agora to read. I went to Domy and annoyed the owners by reading some comics for 2 and a half hours but only buying a single book of Jeffrey Brown comics.

I walked over to Agora and read with JB on the top floor. We peered at the bottom floor from over the banister and we saw Blake sitting down there with his hip friends. He didn’t see us so JB thought it would be funny to call him. They talked for a while and then JB revealed that he was sitting above him, looking at him. Blake came up a few minutes later and we talked for a while. We were all going to Rice University a few hours later to see Ratatat at the free KTRU indoor show so JB and I left to go get some drinks and we would meet up with Blake later at Rice so he could find us a prime parking spot. We met up with Blake in a neighborhood and hung out in his car. We tried to hang out at the park but it was cold and wet. We relocated by driving around and parking and then driving around some more. After a few minutes, JB and Blake needed to piss really bad so JB opened the door and pissed on the street and Blake pissed in a 16 oz bottle. He ended up filling the bottle. JB left to go to his car and pick up Morgan and Blake and I walked over to Rice. Kids I knew from everywhere were there to see the show. Before we even walked in I saw Dylan and Sophie and Francisca and as soon as I walked in I saw Nick DeLacey and an Annie or two. Blake and I went to the bathroom to piss some more. We went inside to see the show and I saw some more people, mostly from Lanier but a few from Poe. Of course, I avoided most of them ’cause I’m a pretty awkward guy. I said hi to Zoe. I saw Patty, Ben D., Grant, Julia, Layne, and tons of other people I can’t even remember. JB and Morgan came back and I talked with them for a while. As I was standing with them, a girl in the distance wearing a headband was walking in the opposite direction, winking and pointing a fingergun at me. The scene looked similar to this:

I didn’t know who she was so I stood there confused for a few seconds, trying to see if I could recognize her. She looked so familiar. For the longest time that night I wondered who the hell it was and later I learned it was this darling of a girl named Pam, a mutual friend who recognized me from being connected by friends and Int0rw3bz.

Ratatat was jawesome. JB, Morgan, and I all ran back to JB’s truck in the cold, dark rain and JB drove me home. When we got to my house, I asked Morgan to get out and fold down the seat so I could leave through the front door without losing my balance in the wet rain or smashing her in the face with my bag. She refused to she just stood up and folded the seat back half way so she could stay in the cab and not get wet. I ended up stepping in a puddle and smashing her in the face with my bag. I ran inside and put my bag down and ran back out to pick up my Magnus air organ. Morgan helped me open the gate and I gave them all some drinks as repayment. I went to bed and laid there dead for 10 hours.

I never expected to spend 3 whole days/72 hours/day and night with JB. I never wanted to go home.
