Low-Lives & High-Fives

I could barely write a grocery list, let alone a weblog.

I was watching TV and I saw this kid I used to know on channel 13. His name is Jeremy Jenkins. When I was 10, I went to elementary school with him. A lot of kids made fun of him a lot because he was so strange. He was obsessed with flying. I remember every time I went to the library, he’d be in the science or history section reading about airplanes. He also played a bunch of flight simulators on the computer. Anyway, on TV the news station was doing a story about Sterling High School’s aviation program and Jeremy just got his pilot’s license. He’ll probably get a job as a pilot but it seemed really strange to me. I mean, seeing someone from all those years back is pretty strange but to find out that someone I used to know is so close to doing what they always dreamt about doing is so strange. When I was in Austin, my aunt and uncle were telling me about all their friends and all their careers and there were only 2 people they knew that had careers pertaining to their childhood dreams. One was this guy that always dreamt about working for NASA and now he does; the other person is his wife who does the same thing. Ever since they were kids they would read books about space and space aeronautics and stuff like that and now they get excited to go to work. Then after work they go home and watch the NASA channel.

Ehh today’s my birthday.

Partied hard yesterday afternoon/evening/night. Not with Andrew WK, though it was just as good. If not better! Possibly.

I saw a British pop star do an acoustic instore performance.

Seeing Lily Allen was pretty neat, though I think we can all agree it isn’t nearly as epic as partying with Andrew WK. Man that scavenger hunt and secret show with Andrew WK and Best Fwends will be carved into my brain for years. When I’m all old (but still awesome) I will show my grandchildren my skeleton tattoos and stories of how I went to that Andrew WK show.

Last night was probably the best show I’ve ever been to. Andrew Sainz and Arie came up to Austin from Houston and we did a scavenger hunt hosted by Andrew WK. Then Andrew WK played a secret show at the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge with a generator, an iPod, two speakers, two construction lamps, and a PA. Earlier that afternoon I attended his lecture on pure fun and positivity and he popped his knee which is why he is holding that cane.

Best Fwends were quite excellent as well. There was a lot of this:

Trying to keep a can of Dr Pepper from spilling while being stuck in the middle of a crowd partying hard is quite difficult!

Lily Allen at the UT Soundstage. They film Austin City Limits there. It’s small.
